Film archive, library at this year's Iffi
PANAJI: Delegates at the 42nd International Film Festival of India (Iffi) will be able to access an unique digital film archive and film book library set up by the Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) for the first time at this year's festival.
ESG set up the digital film archive in Goa this year to promote a healthy film culture in the state. The archive has also been set up with the objective of encouraging research on various aspects of cinema and to preserve cinema for posterity.
The film archive contains classics, short films, documentaries and feature films, currently comprising a collection of 150 films. The collection includes films from the 1930's like Sant Tukaram and also comprises films that have won accolades at international film festivals. The ESG is constantly in the process of acquiring more films for the archive.
Delegates will be able to access the archive by paying a nominal charge of 50 for three hours per day. This unique archive is digital and works on the digital asset management technology and is supported by NIC-Goa, wherein films are stored on a server and can be accessed easily.
The film book library contains around 347 books on international and national cinema. Various magazines and periodicals are also available at the library, which can be accessed by researchers, journalists, teachers and students of cinema, mass communication etc.
The purpose of the library is to source, acquire and preserve films and film books for the archive and film book library, to classify and document data related to films, to promote research on Indian and foreign cinema, to promote film culture in Goa and to extend facilities to filmmakers, research scholars and students of cinema.
A database of financial incentives offered by film commissions worldwide is also available at the ESG in the digital film archive and film book library.
