લખનઉ, 26 માર્ચ લખનઉમાં એક એવી પિચકારી વેચાઈ રહી છે, જેની કિંમત એક લાખ રૂપિયા સુધીની છે. તમે પણ જાણો એવું તો શું છે આ પિચકારીમાં. હકીકત એવી છે કે આ પિચકારી સામાન્ય ધાતુની નહીં બલ્કે ચાંદીની બનેલી છે.  પહેલી વખત ચાંદીની પિચકારી બજારમાં ઉતારી છે.   લખનઉના સરાફા બજારનાં સૌથી મોટા વ્યાપારી કૈલાશ ચંદ્ર જૈનની જ્વેલર્સની દુકાન છે.  જૈનનાં કહ્યાં પ્રમાણે લગભગ એક ડઝન પિચકારીઓ વેચાઈ ચૂકી છે. અને લગભગ 20ના ઓર્ડર પણ પહેલેથી બુક થયેલાં છે. એક પિચકારી બનાવવામાં લગભગ 10 દિવસનો સમય લાગે છે.

જૂની કહેવત છે કે રાત્રે જલદી સૂઈ જઈને સવારે વહેલા ઊઠનારાં બાળકો વધારે બુદ્ધિમાન બને છે, પરંતુ તાજેતરમાં થયેલી એક શોધનાં પરિણામોએ આ કહેવતને નકારી દીધી છે. સંશોધન મુજબ,રાત્રીનાં ઘુવડોની જેમ જાગનારા યુવાનો બીજા યુવાનોની સરખામણીમાં વધારે બુદ્ધિમાન અને વધારે સમજદાર હોય છે.

યુનિર્વિસટી ઓફ મેડ્રિડ દ્વારા કિશોરો પર થયેલાં સંશોધનમાં જણાયું હતું કે રાત્રીના જાગીને કામ કરનાર અને સવારે મોડા ઊઠનારા કિશોરો વહેલા ઊઠનારા કિશોરોની સરખામણીએ વધારે બુદ્ધિમાન હતા. વૈજ્ઞાનિક પરિણામમાં જાણી શકાયું છે કે ઉચ્ચ પદ અને સારાં વેતનવાળી નોકરીઓમાં મોટાભાગનાં એવાં લોકો કામ કરે છે જેઓ રાત્રીના જાગવાવાળા હોય છે. ધી ઇન્ડિપેન્ડન્ટના અહેવાલ મુજબ સવારે વહેલા જાગનાર કિશોરોને સ્કૂલમાં માર્ક્સ તો સારા મળે છે પરંતુ તેમના વિચાર મૌલિક હોતા નથી.

આ સંશોધન હેઠળ, લગભગ એક હજાર કરતાં વધારે કિશોરોએ ભાગ લીધો હતો. સવારે જલદી વહેલા ઊઠનારા અને રાત્રીનાં ઘુવડની જેમ જાગનારા વિદ્યાર્થીઓની સ્કૂલમાં રજૂઆત, મહત્ત્વપૂર્ણ વિષયોમાં શૈક્ષણિક યોગ્યતાનું મૂલ્યાંન કરવામાં આવ્યું હતું. સંશોધનકારોને જણાયું કે ચારમાંથી માત્ર એક વિદ્યાર્થી વહેલો ઊઠતો હતો, જ્યારે ૩૨ ટકા વિદ્યાર્થીઓ રાત્રીના જાગનારા વિદ્યાર્થી હતા જ્યારે બાકીના વિદ્યાર્થી આ બેમાંથી કોઈ પણ શ્રેણીમાં આવતા ન હતા. સંશોધન મુજબ, રાત્રીના જાગનારાઓનું સામાન્ય જ્ઞાન વધારે સારું હોવાનો અર્થ થાય છે કે તેની પાસે મૌલિક વિચાર છે, આથી તે ઉચ્ચ પદ અને ઊંચા પગારવાળી નોકરીઓ હાંસલ કરી શકે છે.

હોળીના કેટલાક દિવસો પહેલાથી જ લોકો રંગ, ફુગ્ગા તેમજ ગુલાલની ખરીદી કરવાની શરૂ કરી દેતા હોય છે. રંગથી રમતી વખતે બહુ જ મહત્વપૂર્ણ વાતો પર આપણું ધ્યાન જતુ નથી જે કરીને કેટલીક વખત ત્વચાની ગંભીર સમસ્યાઓ પણ થતી જોવા મળે છે. તમારી થોડી મજાક મસ્તી અને બેદરકારી તમારી ત્વચાને નુકસાન પણ પહોંચાડી શકે છે.

બીબીસી ટીવી સેન્ટર- એક યુગ આથમ્યો

એક સમયે હજારો કર્મચારીઓથી ધમધમતું બીબીસીનું ટેલિવિઝન સેન્ટર અત્યારે સાવ નિર્જન અને ભેંકાર બની ગયું છે.

આ ટીવી સેન્ટરને ૨૯મી જૂન, ૧૯૬૦ના રોજ શરૂ કરવામાં આવ્યું હતું, હવે બીબીસીનું સમગ્ર સંચાલન લંડનમાં ઓક્સફર્ડ સર્કસ ખાતે આવેલાં નવાં હેડક્વાર્ટર ખાતેથી કરવામાં આવશે. છેલ્લાં ૫૩ વર્ષથી બીબીસીનું ટીવી સેન્ટર ૨૪ કલાક ધમધમતું રહેતું હતુંું. બીબીસીએ તેનાં ટીવી સેન્ટરને વેચવાની જાહેરાત વર્ષ ૨૦૦૭માં જ કરી દીધી હતી.

દુનિયાના સૌથી મોટા ટીવી સ્ટુડિયો પશ્ચિમ લંડનના વ્હાઇટ સિટીમાં આવેલા બીબીસી ટીવી સેન્ટરને હંમેશાં માટે બંધ કરી દેવામાં આવ્યું છે.

પ્રસિદ્ધીનું પ્રથમ સોપાન

બીબીસી ટેલિવિઝન સેન્ટરનાં વેચાણની સાથે જ એક સુવર્ણ યુગનો અંત આવ્યો છે. આ ટેલિવિઝન સેન્ટરમાં તૈયાર કરેલા કાર્યક્રમ દ્વારા બીબીસીએ સમગ્ર યુરોપ અને દુનિયામાં ટેલિવિઝન ક્ષેત્રે પોતાનું પ્રભુત્વ સ્થાપ્યું હતું. બીબીસી ટીવી સેન્ટરમાં બ્લૂ પીટર, મોન્ટી પાયથોન્સ ફ્લાઇંગ સર્કસ, ધ જનરેશન ગેમ, ટોપ ઓફ પોપ્સ, ડોક્ટર હુ એન્ડ સ્ટ્રિક્ટલી કમ ડાન્સિકની અત્યંત લોકપ્રિય ટીવી શ્રેણીઓનું રેર્કોડગ કરવામાં આવ્યું હતું.

નિર્માણ

૧લી એપ્રિલ ૧૯૪૯ના રોજ તે સમયના બીબીસી ટેલિવિઝન ર્સિવસના મુખ્ય અધિકારી નોર્મન કોલિન્સે નવું ટીવી સેન્ટર બનાવવાની જાહેરાત કરી હતી. વોલડોર્ફ હોટેલમાં યોજાયેલા ટેલિવિઝન સોસાયટીના ર્વાિષક કાર્યક્રમમાં તેમણે જણાવ્યું હતું કે શેફર્ડ બુશ ખાતે આ નવું સેન્ટર બાંધવામાં આવશે. આ સમયે બીબીસીનું ટ્રાન્સમિશન એલેક્ઝાન્ડર પેલેસ અને લાઇમ ગ્રોવ સ્ટુડિયોમાંથી કરવામાં આવતું હતું.  

બીબીસી ટીવી સેન્ટરની મહત્ત્વની હકીકતો

નોર્મન કોલિન્સે કરેલી જાહેરાતનાં ૧૧ વર્ષ બાદ બીબીસી ટેલિવિઝન સેન્ટરની સત્તાવાર શરૂઆત કરવામાં આવી હતી.

૧૪ એકર વિસ્તારમાં ફેલાયેલાં ટીવી સેન્ટરમાં પાંચ મુખ્ય બિલ્ડિંગ્સ આવેલાં છે. મુખ્ય બિલ્ડિંગનાં બાંધકામ બાદ પણ નવાં બિલ્ડિંગ બનાવવાનું ચાલુ રખાયું હતું.

ગ્રાનાડા સ્ટુડિયો બાદ તે બ્રિટનનો સૌથી જૂનો ટેલિવિઝન સ્ટુડિયો હતો.

ટેલિવિઝન સેન્ટરમાં ૧૫ મુખ્ય સ્ટુડિયો અને અન્ય ૧૦ ન્યૂઝ બુલેટિન સ્ટુડિયો બનાવવામાં આવ્યા હતા.

બીબીસીના ટેલિવિઝન સેન્ટરમાં વીજપુરવઠો ખોરવાઈ જવાને કારણે અનેક વખત પ્રસારણ અટકાવવાનો વારો આવ્યો હતો.

ટીવી સેન્ટરમાં ૧૯૬૦માં ગ્રીકમાં સૂર્ય તરીકે પૂજાતા હેલિઓસ દેવની ર્મૂિત મૂકવામાં આવી છે. આ ર્મૂિતની નીચે ટેલિવિઝનના બે મહત્ત્વના ઘટક તત્ત્વ તરીકે અવાજ અને વિઝનની મૂર્તિ પણ મૂૂકવામાં આવી છે.

માર્ચ ૨૦૦૧માં એક કાર બોમ્બ વિસ્ફોટમાં બિલ્ડિંગના કેટલાક ભાગને નુકસાન થયું હતું. આ બોમ્બ વિસ્ફોટમાં કોઈ જાનહાનિ થઈ નહોતી, આઇરિશ નાગરિકોએ આ હુમલો કર્યો હતો.

હેરિટેજ લિસ્ટિંગ

બીબીસી ટેલિવિઝન સેન્ટરના કેટલાક ભાગોનો સમાવેશ હેરિટેજમાં કરાયો હતો. આ ભાગોમાં મુખ્ય ગોળાકાર બિલ્ડિંગ, મુખ્ય બિલ્ડિંગ અને જૂની કેન્ટીનનો સમાવેશ થતો હતો.

ડિઝાઇન

શરૂઆતમાં તેને માત્ર ૬ એકરના વિસ્તારમાં જ બનાવવાનો પ્લાન હતો, જ્યારે હકીકતમાં તેનું નિર્માણ થયું ત્યારે નિર્ધારિત વિસ્તાર કરતાં બમણી જગ્યામાં તે બનાવવામાં આવ્યું હતું. ૯ મિલિયન પાઉન્ડમાં આ સમગ્ર બાંધકામ કરવાનો અંદાજ મુકાયો હતો. આ ટીવી સેન્ટર બનાવવાનો કોન્ટ્રાક્ટ હિગ્સ એન્ડ હિલને આપવામાં આવ્યો હતો, જેણે બાદમાં લંડન સ્ટુડિયોનું પણ નિર્માણ કર્યું હતું.

હવે શું ?

પશ્ચિમ લંડનમાં આવેલાં બીબીસીનાં ઐતિહાસિક ટેલિવિઝન સેન્ટરનો સોદો ૨૦૦ મિલિયન પાઉન્ડમાં પાર પાડવામાં આવ્યો હતો. લંડનના બીબીસી ટેલિવિઝન સેન્ટરને હવે હોટેલ, ફ્લેટ્સ, સિનેમાઘર અને ઓફિસમાં ફેરવી દેવામાં આવશે. બીબીસી કર્મચારીઓ જે બિલ્ડિંગને 'ડગનટ' તરીકે ઓળખતા હતા તે વર્તુળાકાર ઇમારતને હોટેલ અને એપાર્ટમેન્ટમાં ફેરવી દેવાશે જ્યારે સ્ટુડિયો ૧, ૨ અને ૩નું પુનઃનિર્માણ કરાશે. બીબીસી સેન્ટરનાં અન્ય બિલ્ડિંગ્સમાં ઓફિસ અને રહેવાનાં ઘર બનાવાશે.

01. The Galapagos Islands - Ecuador 

Located in the Pacific Ocean, west of Ecuador are the Galapagos Islands. The islands sprouted from the earth’s crust from a sub oceanic lava vent on the ocean floor. The relatively new volcanic geology created a habitat rich with flora, fauna, and animal life that have been studied and admired by numerous travelers, scientists, and nature-lovers from all over the world.

02. The Northern Red Sea - Jordan

Some of the most beautiful coral reefs in the world are located in the Northern Red Sea. Considered by some to be the underwater “Garden of Eden,” this reef has some of the most diverse sea life in the world. Located in the Indian Sea between Asia and Africa, the Northern Red Sea spreads out over 169,000 square miles. More than 70 species of hard coral, 30 species of soft coral, over 500 species of fish including hundreds of additional marine life species classified as invertebrate call this reef home.

03. Palau - Philippines

Palau is an island nation located about 500 miles from the Philippines. Some of the most beautiful fish in the world live in these reefs. More than 350 species of hard corals, 200 species of soft corals, 300 species of sponges, and 1,300 species of reef fish call this coral reef home.

04. Lake Baikal - Russia

Lake Baikal is the second most voluminous fresh water lake in the world. Located in Siberia, Russia, the lake has an average depth of 2,442 ft and contains roughly 20% of the world’s surface fresh water. At 25 million years old and with a depth of 2442ft makes this lake the oldest and deepest lake in the world.

05. The Great Barrier Reef - Australia

The only living thing that can be seen from outer space that is larger than the Great Wall of China is the Great Barrier Reef, the largest coral reef system in the world. Located in Australia, this reef system is composed of 2,900 individual reefs and 900 islands making it 1,600 miles in length. The overall structure of the reef is composed of billions of tiny organisms, known as coral polyps. Along with the ocean, the reef creates a habitat that supports a great diversity of sea life, some of which are endangered. Because of the vast beauty of the Reef, people find it very appealing to visit thus bringing many tourist dollars to the area, which help to put in place protective measures to hopefully protect this valuable wonder for many generations to come.

06. The Deep Sea Vents - Ecuador

Deep Sea Vents otherwise known as hypothermal vents, are fissures along the ocean floor that release superheated water from below the Earth’s crust. The hot water is saturated with dissolved minerals from the crust, mostly sulfides, which crystallize to create a chimney-like enclosure around each vent. When the superheated water in the vent reaches the frigid ocean water, many minerals are released, creating the distinctive black color. The metal sulfides that are deposited can become massive sulfide ore deposits in time. The Deep Sea vents were first discovered in 1977 near the Galápagos Islands by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. They are found to exist in both the Pacific and Atlanta Ocean at an average of 2100 meters deep.

07. The Belize Barrier Reef - Belize

The second largest reef system in the world is the Belize Barrier Reef. Located on the coast of Belize, this reef is considered to be one of the best spots in the world to dive and snorkel. It is over 186 miles long and is part of the larger Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System that stretches from Cancun all the way to the Honduras, for a total of 560 miles. Only

વોશિંગ્ટન, તા. ૧ આર્થિક, સામાજિક અને રાજકીય સ્થિરતા માટે ભારતની ભાગીદારી જરૂરી   દુનિયાના દેશો અને ખાસ કરીને એશિયાઈ દેશો પ્રત્યે બેવડી નીતિ ધરાવતા અમેરિકાનો વધુ એક દાખલો જોવા મળ્યો છે. થોડા સમય પહેલાં અમેરિકાના સંરક્ષણપ્રધાન બનવા માટે નક્કી મનાતા હેગલ દ્વારા પાકિસ્તાનને પરેશાન કરવા માટે ભારત પર આરોપ મુકાયા હતા ત્યાં બીજા એક સાંસદ દ્વારા હવે ભારતનાં વખાણ કરવામાં આવ્યાં છે. એક તરફ હેગલે ભારતની પ્રતિષ્ઠાને ખરડવાનો સભાન પ્રયાસ કર્યો છે ત્યાં અમેરિકી સાસંદ ટેડ પો ભારતને મનાવી રહ્યા હોય તેમ લાગી રહ્યું છે.અમેરિકામાં ભારતીય રાજદૂત નિરુપમા રાવ સાથેની એક મુલાકાત દરમિયાન વરિષ્ઠ અમેરિકી સાસંદ ટેડ પોએ સપ્ટેમ્બર ૨૦૧૨માં તેમણે કરેલા ભારતપ્રવાસ અંગે ચર્ચા કરી હતી. તેમણે જણાવ્યું કે શિક્ષણ, સ્વાસ્થ્ય અને ઊર્જા ક્ષેત્રે આગામી સમયમાં ભારતની અને અમેરિકાની ભાગીદારી સારી સાબિત થશે. એશિયાઈ દેશોમાં આર્થિક, સામાજિક અને રાજકીય સ્થિરતા લાવવા માટે ભારત મહત્ત્વનું અંગ છે. ભારત સિવાય એશિયાઈ દેશોમાં સ્થિરતા અને શાંતિ લાવવાં અશક્ય છે, તે સિવાય તેમણે રાવ સાથે આતંકવાદ અને તેમાં જરૂરી સહાય તથા છેલ્લા કેટલાક સમયમાં અમેરિકા અને ભારતના સંબંધોને લગતા ઘટનાક્રમ અંગે પણ વાતચીત કરી હતી. ટેડ પોએ જણાવ્યું કે વૈશ્વિક શાંતિ, સુરક્ષા અને વિકાસ બાબતે અમેરિકા ભારતને પોતાનું મહત્ત્વનું ભાગીદાર માને છે. ભારતીય દૂતાવાસના જણાવ્યા પ્રમાણે રાવે ઉલ્લેખ કર્યો હતો કે અમેરિકી રાજ્યોના ગવર્નરો ભારતીય અમેરિકાની ભાગીદારીને મજબૂત બનાવવા અને વિસ્તારવા માટે નવી તકો તપાસતાં રહે છે અને તેના માટે વારંવાર ભારતના પ્રવાસ પણ કરતા રહે છે. ટેડ પોની પાસે કોંગ્રેસની અનેક મહત્ત્વની સમિતિઓ કામ રે છે. તેઓ વિદેશી બાબતોની સમિતિમાં સ્થાન ધરાવે છે જ્યાં આતંકવાદ, વેપાર વગેરે બાબતો પર અમેરિકાની નીતિઓ પર ચર્ચાવિચારણા થાય છે. અમેરિકાના મતે ભારત અફઘાનિસ્તાન, રશિયા સહિત અનેક દેશો સાથે મૈત્રીપૂર્ણ સંબંધો ધરાવે છે. પરિણામે અફઘાનિસ્તાનમાં નાટો દળોની વિદાય બાદ શાંતિ જાળવી રાખવા ભારત મહત્ત્વપૂર્ણ ભૂમિકા ભજવી શકે છે. ભારતે મવાળવાદી તાલિબાનો અને અફઘાન સરકાર વચ્ચે વાટાઘાટો માટે પ્રયાસ કર્યા હતા. ભારતીય મિશન અફઘાનિસ્તાનને ત્રાસવાદી શાસનમાંથી બહાર લાવવા સતત કાર્યરત છે.

બેન્કો પાસેથી જંગી રકમની લોન લઈને તે પરત નહિ કરવાના કિસ્સા હમણા વધી રહ્યા છે ત્યારે સ્ટેટ બેન્ક ઓફ ઇન્ડિયા દ્વારા આવા લોનડિફોલ્ટર્સને ખુલ્લા પાડવાની પહેલ કરવામાં આવી છે,જે લોકોએ બેન્કની લોન ભરવામાં ઠાગાઠૈયા કર્યા હશે તેમનાં નામ,સરનામાં અને ફોટો હવે અખબારોમાં પ્રસિદ્ધ કરવાનો નિર્ણય લેવામાં આવ્યો છે.

બેન્કો લોન લેનારાઓને નોટિસ બજાવે તે પછી ૧૫ દિવસમાં જો લોન પરત કરવાનાં પગલાં ન લેવાય તો તેવા કિસ્સામાં ગેરંટરનો ફોટો તેમજ નામ અને સરનામું અખબારોમાં પ્રસિદ્ધ કરવામાં આવશે, જે લોકો જાણી જોઈને બેન્કલોન ચૂકવતા નથી તેવાં લોકોના ફોટો અને અન્ય વિગતો તેઓ જે વિસ્તારમાં રહેતા હોય ત્યાં પ્રસિદ્ધ કરવાનો કેટલીક બેન્કોએ નિર્ણય લીધો છે. સ્ટેટ બેન્કે નવી દિલ્હીમાં આવા પાંચ ડિફોલ્ટર્સના ફોટા અને વિગતો જાહેર કરી છે. લોન લેનારાઓ જે વિસ્તારમાં રહેતા હોય ત્યાં વધુ વંચાતાં અને વેચાતાં અખબારોમાં આવી વિગતો જાહેર કરાશે.

જેઓ પાસે પૂરતા પૈસા છે પણ જાણી જોઈને લોન પરત કરતા નથી કે હપ્તા ચૂકવતા નથી તેવાં લોકોને આરબીઆઈના નિયમો મુજબ લોન ચૂકવવામાં કસૂરવાર જાહેર કરવામાં આવે છે. રિઝર્વ બેન્ક દ્વારા આવા ડિફોલ્ટર્સ નક્કી કરવા અને તેમની વિગતો જાહેર કરવા માર્ગરેખાઓ જાહેર કરવામાં આવી હતી, જે લોકો રૂ. ૨૫ લાખથી વધુ લોન ચૂકવવામાં નિષ્ફળ ગયા હોય તેવાં લોકોનાં નામ, સરનામાં અને ફોટો જાહેર કરવા બેન્કોને કહેવાયું હતું.

Yesterday at The Ritz hotel in London, the Professor Clive Palmer show rolled into town.  And what a show. 

He is still relatively unknown in this country, but surely not for long. For Prof Palmer is the Australian businessman who is going to bring back the Titanic... or at least a modern-day  replica of it.

Unveiling his plans for Titanic II, the ebullient mining magnate insisted the new ship will set sail in 2016, and dismissed his doubters with a single word.

‘B******t,’ he said to those who questioned whether he would ever make his dream a reality. ‘This is not a fantasy, this is not a movie. This is going to happen,’ he added.

Titanic II will seek to closely match the design of original vessel, which sank on the fifth day of its maiden voyage in April 1912, killing more than 1,500 passengers and crew.

It will boast the same interiors, and even the same onboard gymnasium, complete with Edwardian exercise machines. 

The grand staircase, smoking room, Cafe Parisien and various dining rooms will also be recreated, as will the reading and writing room, the swimming pool and Moorish-influenced Turkish baths.

There will be an authentic Edwardian gym complete with equipment that guests can use

There will not be televisions or state-of-the-art music systems on board, nor internet connections or   mobile phones. But every passenger will find period costumes in their cabin wardrobe so that they can enjoy ‘a true 1912 experience’.

However, the plans include a safety deck (with more lifeboats obviously), a new high-tech engine, air-conditioning and service lifts. 

As with the original ship, there will be First, Second and Third Class cabins and passengers will not be allowed to mingle – apart from on the safety deck, where there will be a casino and theatre.

And at 883ft, Titanic II will be three inches longer than its predecessor to accommodate an additional area at the bow where passengers will be able to recreate the iconic ‘Jack and Rose pose’ made famous by actors Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet in James Cameron’s 1997 Oscar-winning movie.

Cameron refused Palmer’s invitation to last week’s Titanic II celebratory gala dinner in New York. 

Another dinner was held last night at London’s Natural History Museum, where guests were served the same 11 course dinner as First-Class passengers on the original.

Speaking to The Mail on Sunday yesterday, Prof Palmer said he would travel Third Class on his  ship’s maiden voyage – ‘Although I’ll probably nip up to First or the bridge as we come into New York harbour,’ he said. 

‘Third Class has got all the appeal, but there might be people who normally travel Third Class who might want to go in First.’

Known as the man who got rich under the radar, Palmer was born in Melbourne to Nancy and George Palmer, a silent movie star of the 1920s who went on to set up the first commercial radio stations in Australia.

Clive made his first millions investing in property on Australia’s Gold Coast but became eye-wateringly rich after moving into iron ore mining.

His net worth is the subject of much debate. Business Review Weekly rates Palmer as Australia’s fifth-richest person with assets of $5 billion (about £3.5 billion) while Forbes estimates his wealth at a relatively paltry $895 million (£600 million). 

Palmer contends he is far wealthier than even the BRW estimate. He refuses to say how much Titanic II will cost to build, although   experts believe it will between £260 million and £400 million.

While the original was built in Belfast, this ship will be constructed in a Chinese yard, and the voyage could become a financial bonanza for Palmer. 

But he says: ‘My motivation   wasn’t to make a lot of money but was actually to deliver the ship. Now something which wasn’t primarily aimed in my mind as a great business transaction may well become one.’

Passengers will be able to buy a six-day ticket for one class, or a mixed ticket covering two days in each section. Prices have not been set yet although Palmer says he has already had offers from 16 people of between £500,000 and £850,000 for berths.

‘That’s not the sort of figure we’ll be asking but it shows the demand,’ he says, adding that 40,000 people have expressed an interest on his website bluestarline.com – an homage to the original Titanic operating company, the White Star Line.

‘The Titanic II is about falling in love with your wife all over again or her falling in love with you. It’s about going back to a different time,’ he says.

યુપીએ સરકાર દ્વારા બજેટસત્રમાં જાહેર કરાયેલી ઓલ વિમેન બેંક હકીકતમાં પરિણમશે તેવી શક્યતા પ્રબળ બની છે. નાણામંત્રી પી. ચિદમ્બરમે જણાવ્યું કે સરકાર દ્વારા નવેમ્બર મહિના સુધીમાં જ ઓલ વિમેન બેંક કાર્યરત કરી દેવામાં આવશે. શરૂઆતના તબક્કે દેશના મુખ્ય ક્ષેત્રોમાં એટલે કે ૬ ક્ષેત્રોમાં બ્રાન્ચ શરૂ કરવામાં આવશે. સરકાર દ્વારા કરાયેલી તૈયારી પ્રમાણે શરૂઆતના તબક્કે દેશના દક્ષિણ, પશ્ચિમ, પૂર્વ, મધ્ય, ઉત્તર અને ઉત્તર-પૂર્વ વિસ્તારોમાં એક એક બ્રાન્ચ શરૂ કરી દેવાશે.

મહિલા બેંક ચાલુ કરવાનો પ્રસ્તાવ યુપીએ અધ્યક્ષા સોનિયા ગાંધી દ્વારા કરાયો હતો કે કેમ તે અંગે ચિદમ્બરમે જવાબ આપવાનું ટાળ્યું હતું, તેમ છતાં તેમણે જણાવ્યું કે જયપુર અધિવેશન દરમિયાન અમે મહિલાઓની અલાયદી બેંક અંગે વિચાર્યું હતું. આ અંગે સંપૂર્ણપણે મારા વિચારો અને ઉદ્દેશોને રજૂ કરાયા હતા, તેને સમર્થન મળતાં જ મારા દ્વારા આ વિચારને અમલમાં મૂકીને મહિલાઓ માટે નેશનલ બેંક બનાવવાની જાહેરાત કરવામાં આવી.

આ મહિનાના અંત સુધીમાં આ ક્ષેત્રના તમામ માંધાતાઓની મદદથી મહિલા બેંક અંગેની બ્લૂપ્રિન્ટ તૈયાર કરવામાં આવશે. હું આ બ્લૂપ્રિન્ટને શક્ય એટલી ઝડપથી તૈયાર કરાવીને મને મળે તેવી વ્યવસ્થા ગોઠવી રહ્યો છું. મને આશા છે કે માર્ચ મહિના સુધીમાં બ્લૂપ્રિન્ટ તૈયાર થઈ જશે અને અમે તેના પર આગળ કામ કરવા લાગીશું. આ બેંક માટે અને પ્રારંભિક ૧,૦૦૦ કરોડનાં ફંડની પણ જોગાવાઈ કરી છે.

Chidambaram presents Budget 2013 in Parliament: highlights

New Delhi: Finance Minister P. Chidambaram today prefaced his much anticipated budget 2013 proposals by spelling out what he called his government's mantra: "higher growth leading to inclusive, sustainable development".

Budget 2013-14 caps an intensive seven-month campaign by the energetic Mr Chidambaram, who was appointed last August, to turn around the fortunes of Asia's third-largest economy after years of policy drift and global economic turmoil.

Here are the highlights of his speech:

• Surcharge of 10% on persons whose taxable income exceeds Rs. 1 crore
• The current slabs were introduced last year. Hence, there is no case of revision, says Chidambaram
• Tax Administraion Reforms Commission to be set up to review tax laws
• TDS of 1 per cent on land deals over Rs. 50 lakh
• I belive there is a little bit of the spirit of Mr Azim Premji in every affluent tax payer, says Chidambaram
• Faced with huge fiscal deficit, India had no choice but to rationalise expenditure
• India faces challenge of getting back to its potential growth rate of 8 pct
• India must unhesitatingly embrace growth as highest goal
• Excise duty on certain SUVs hiked to 30 per cent
• Specific excise duty on cigarettes increased by 18 per cent
• On mobile phones priced at more than Rs. 2000, excise duty hiked to 6 per cent
• Only China and Indonesia growing faster than India
• Plan expenditure pegged at Rs. 555,322 crore
