Dr. S.P. Kothari, deputy dean and Gordon Y. Billard Professor of Management at the MIT Sloan School of Management, has been named director of the MIT MISTI-India Program. He succeeds Arundhati Banerjee, director of the Office of Global Initiatives.The MIT International Science and Technology Initiatives (MISTI) connect MIT students and faculty with research and innovation around the world. MIT's primary international program, MISTI is a pioneer in applied international studies — a distinctively MIT concept.
"I am tremendously pleased that S.P. will be taking on this role and MISTI-India will benefit from his leadership, vision and energy," said Chappell Lawson, MISTI director and associate professor of political science at MIT.
Prof. Kothari has done his Ph.D. Accounting, University of Iowa, 1986. He did M.B.A. from Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, after completing Chemical Engineering from Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani. He has over two decades of teaching experience. For the past 14 years, Kothari has been serving as an editor of the Journal of Accounting & Economics, a world-renowned academic research journal in accounting. He is an expert on economic policy issues in India, and has written numerous opinion-page editorials in The Economic Times. He has also authored many books.
With programs in eight countries around the world, the MIT International Science and Technology Initiatives (MISTI) are among the principal international programs at MIT. Each year, MISTI sends over 200 MIT students of all disciplines and academic levels to rigorous, hands-on, tailored internships abroad. These three to 12-month internships are organized through MISTI's country programs in partnership with MISTI's network of leading companies, research institutes and universities around the world.
