Three teachers from UT cadre of Chandigarh state schools have been selected for the National Award for teaching by the Ministry of Human Resources and Development. Indu Bala, Neerja Jain and Om Parkash Manauli will receive the award presented to the teachers by President Pratibha Patil at a function in New Delhi on September 5, 2011.
Neerja Jain teaches English in a Government Model Senior School for the past 23 years. She was one of the thirteen teachers selected from India in 2007 for a professional development program in University of California, Los Angeles.She has conducted many In-Service Teacher Training workshops in government schools. She was also invited as the resource person for the training of Indian and Pakistani teachers in a workshop organised by United States India Education Foundation.
Om Parkash Manauli is an environment teacher at Government Model Senior secondary School (GMSSS) Sector 46 Apart from being a teacher; he is an environmentalist, a writer and a philanthropist. He is the chief coordinator and in-charge of all Eco-Clubs in Chandigarh government schools. Education Department, Chandigarh Administration awarded him Certificate of Merit on Teacher’s Day 1996 for his distinguished services to the cause of education.
Indu Bala, Sarthak government integrated model senior secondary, Panchkula .She is currently serving as the principal of Sarthak School. A teacher of political science, she began her career in 1989. Having taught in various rural and urban schools in the region, she has provided free uniforms and books to a number of needy students.
